Customer story: Carve out – digital transformation / PHILIPS DA (VERSUNI)
In September 2021, Philips Domestic Appliances (Philips DA) became a standalone company, focused on long-term sustainable growth through digital innovation and enablement.
As part of the carve-out from Royal Philips, a healthcare company, DA had to transform its entire technology landscape and implement new end-to-end processes for a consumer goods company.
Furthermore, to achieve DAs goal of building lifetime relationships with consumers and help the turn their houses into homes, DA had to become digital-first and insights-led, fully integrated within all domains of the organization — from design, to production, to shopping carts, to home delivery in a 2-year timeframe.


Role of Tarlunt
Tarlunt was responsible for the overall program management (approach, planning, quality assurance) for the migration/build of the entire system landscape and business processes; carving out the system landscape at Royal Philips and building the best practice processes and IT-landscape in the new Versuni environment.
The programme included implementing 40 new networks, replacing 4,700 laptops and desktops, 60+ new cloud applications, migrating more than 300 data objects and redesigning 400 reports and 3,500 processes in a geography of 52 countries.
Approach Taken
To simplify and harmonize its ways of working effectively across the organization, DA made the decision to adopt an outside-in approach, reviewing the processes and technologies and creating a model built for the future. It was also important for DA to maintain a Clean-Core and not convolute the ERP with too many applications and custom code. DA decided to depend on the best-practices and processes from SAP’s Intelligent Enterprise Suite on for their end-to-end business processes, SAP BTP capabilities for Collaboration & Integration and SAP RISE for better cost control to maximize the benefit.

Solutions: SAP RISE Cloud, (amongst SAP S4/Hana, Fiori, C4C, IBP, Ariba, Success Factors), multiple IT packages (amongst Genesys Cloud, Vertex)
Team size: 600 FTE / onshore and offshore
Result
In 18 months the entire new company (called Versuni) went live on a new platform.
- Implemented an entirely new (greenfield) landscape leveraging SAP’s Intelligent Enterprise suite for end-to-end best-practice business processes, in order to bring our purpose to life and reach our growth ambition in a sustainable way.
- Built a virtual cockpit, making data available to every employee in all domains in our organization, from Recruitment to Marketing to Sales, empowering all employees to translate real-time insights into impact every single day.
- Data-driven steering and decision-making, and Process Governance using Signavio.
- Agile and shorter time to value, utilize SAP BTP for constant innovation and improvement in response to the market and customers needs.
This transformation program has been rewarded with the SAP Innovation Award 2023 in the Industry Leader category for driving innovation and delivering customer value-transforming solutions.
